Family
Theresa Salvatici - 38 - mother: The youngest of the Salvatici brood, Theresa had her daughter when she was 19. Theresa's whirlwind romance with an American serviceman left her with a daughter and a devoted lover who wrote to her daily while he was at sea. Theresa's almost-husband died in a weapons accident at sea, the only notice being a letter from his superiors with an envelope stuffed with money that he'd set aside for his little girl (whom he'd never met). Theresa tucked that money away and raised her daughter with the help of her sisters and brother, working in the bakery to earn her keep and living in the spare rooms above the bakery with her sister Noemi. Slight and fragile, Theresa is coping with her breast cancer that is now in remission. She is quiet yet affectionate, and she bears a certain amount of guilt as she sees her sickness as that which keeps Alessia from pursuing an education. Theresa wears white kerchiefs to hide her thinning hair and short dresses or simple tops and skirts in whites and soft pastels. Her eyes are a pale hazel, set upon a slightly gaunt face. Once rather stunning in a subdued manner, Theresa is a shadow of her twentysomething self, mostly due to cancer treatments. She stills keeps a picture of her darling Eddie in her dresser, still very much in love with the memory of the man she lost.
Something interesting to note about Theresa... Eddie certainly wasn't her first love. Theresa had been engaged at 18 to her childhood sweetheart, Cassiano Fabrizio. Her affair and subsequent child with this seemingly random American serviceman brought a fair amount of scandal upon both the Salvatici and Fabrizio households, most of which resulted in Theresa's older brother getting involved with fistfights and her older sisters resorting to verbal wars with both the men and women of the Fabrizio family. This has amounted to a sort of silent feud between the two families, which basically means that the Fabrizios don't come into the bakery, and the Salvaticis don't frequent the pottery.
Yes, this has been cleared with Tami... Alessia needed a good Kemet tie in, and hey, another person for Rafe to despise on sight! ^_^
Francesca Salvatici - 48 - aunt: Sister Francesca, as she's known to the poorer families in Rome, is the midwife in attendance at a health clinic run by her order on the outskirts of Rome. Francesca devoted her life to God at the age of twenty, and spent her early years learning nursing studies in addition to her duties at the convent. At 35, she was sent to the clinic in the hope of easing the financial burden of the families who couldn't afford to go into the city, especially those pregnant women who already had families to watch and houses to manage. Known for her booming laugh and no-nonsense attitude, Francesca is a fixture at the clinic as well as at the bakery. The opposite of her little sister, Francesca has thick black hair that is streaked with gray and dark sparkling eyes. Blessed with a sturdy frame and a stern yet loving temperament, she is the rock that held the Salvatici sisters together through the dark times.
Noemi Gallo - 46 - aunt: The sister of both Theresa and Francesca, Noemi was widowed at the age of 20 with an infant son when her husband was killed by a drunken tourist one night on his way home from work. Since Noemi never wished to remarry, she moved in with her baby sister and the two set up house together above the bakery, their children growing up together. Noemi is shrewd, stubborn, and determined. A natural with finances, she manages the books for the bakery as well as the ordering of supplies. She is a gossip, although she sees it as merely a way of passing on information than vicious rumors. That's not to say that the middle Salvatici sister isn't without a fair amount of venom and wit. Noemi is built like Theresa, with a delicate bone structure as well as the hazel eyes. Noemi has long glossy black hair that she keeps in a bunned braid at the nape of her neck, the infrequent gray strands carefully hidden.
Marco Lorenzo Gallo - 24 - cousin: Noemi's only child, and her pride and joy. Marco grew up with Alessia as his baby sister of sorts, the only boy in a house of three (sometimes four) women. Taken in by a generous neighbor who helped him with a woodworking apprenticeship, Marco is a carpenter who is devoted to his family. Despite his need to work long hours, he strives to spend time with his wife and son, as well as his beloved Mama. He is built like his dearly-departed father, with broad shoulders and large hands. Black hair, black eyes, and a dark complexion deem him 'perfectly handsome' by his mother and aunties. On that note... he is _not_ allowed in the kitchen. Bakery rule... for some reason, his presence always makes something burn.
Piera Louisa Gallo - 23 - cousin-in-law: Marco's wife, and a teacher at Castelli International. An only child, she's often overwhelmed by her in-laws when they all manage to get together. She is quiet and patient, with soft fluid movements and a certain gentleness in her actions. She tutors Alessia on the weekends in exchange for Alessia's babysitting her son. Piera is tall and willowy, with dyed dark red hair and medium brown eyes that compliment her light complexion.
Antonio Rodolfo Gallo - 11 months - second cousin: Noemi's grandbaby, as he is introduced in the bakery. He is the token child of the Salvatici bakery, usually playing in a corner of the shop with Alessia or dozing in the back in a portable crib or in his stroller, taking walks. He is Alessia's constant companion through the weekday, and has a blue-green badger-raccoon stuffed animal (Rasso) that he takes everywhere. Big brown eyes, soft dark curls, pudgy hands and feet... cute. Cute chubby baby.
Lazaro Salvatici - 50 - uncle: Lazaro inherited Pan e Vida (the bakery) from his father, who inherited it from his father, who... well, it's been passed down for a while. He takes care of his sisters, who in turn take care of the shop so that all he has to do is work in the back... which is how he would prefer it. Lazaro, like his youngest sister, is soft-spoken and sincere, not one to waste words. He can be stern, but rarely shows disappointment with more than a shake of his head. Tall, thin, and balding, Lazaro is the talent behind the bakery.
Lucia Salvatici - 40 - aunt: Lucia married into the family at a young age, after a fair amount of scrutiny on the part of the Salvatici sisters. She used to be a bookkeeper at a bank, but starting her own family with Lazaro brought her into the bakery business. As Noemi had already taken over the finances for the bakery, Lucia set about to working with her husband as well as updating the decor and equipment. She is short and stout, tends to be a news junkie, and gets along fantastically with her in-laws.
Maria Grazia Salvatici - 13 - cousin: Lucia and Lazaro's daughter, she is rather studious and soft-spoken. She goes to Vincenzo Arangio Ruiz High School and has aspirations to become a vet. As such, she always seems to be taking care of litters of kittens that wander around the bakery or finding them homes with her classmates. The ones she keeps, she names after famous movie stars. Built like her mother, she emulates Alessia and often helps her with Antonio on the weekends.
Miscellaneous Details
School/Occupation: Alessia left Vincenzo Arangio Ruiz High School at the age of thirteen to help take care of her mother and work in the bakery. Aunt Francesca has given her a fair amount of training as a nursing aid, and Alessia is Francesca's assistant on those late-night emergency deliveries. She is training to be a nurse as well as a doula, wanting to help at the clinic without having to join the convent. Her current steady job is watching Antonio, though. Soooo... she babysits. In exchange, her cousin Piera tutors her so that she can pass her high school proficiency exams and enter a real nursing curriculum, someday.
Skills: Training as a nurse's aide gives Alessia a certain amount of expertise in healing and simply taking care of sick people. She has a soothing bedside manner and relates to children and young women rather well. She is hardworking and supportive in a team atmosphere. She has a very good sense of balance and organization, and her bedside manner translates to a certain amount of tact that is gracious yet honest.
Likes:
Children: Alessia LOVES babies, little children, school-age kids... anyone up to the age of 16. Once they pass that mark, then they fall into the category of 'peer' and require the usual warming-up period that Alessia gives anyone else. She enjoys being around children and playing with them, mostly for the ability to imagine and pretend. She's perfectly happy looking after her cousins, though. Alessia has absolutely no desire to have her own children any time soon.
Sleeping in: Nothing makes Alessia happier than the ability to sleep until noon and then roll about in bed for another hour. She cherishes her sleep and often takes naps in the afternoon when Antonio dozes. They go up to the apartment above the bakery, curl up on the sofa, and fall asleep for an hour or so. Bliss.
Reading stories: To be more specific, reading stories to her cousins. She's been reading to Maria Grazia for as long as she could remember, and she can't wait until Antonio's old enough to do more than just gnaw on picture books. Alessia's the type to change voices as she reads, animating the story with facial expressions and hand gestures.
Brightly colored socks: Yes, it's crazy... but she likes those garish Technicolor striped socks, socks with bright patterns, leopard print socks... you name it, she'd probably buy it.
Other assorted likes include: sunsets, watercolors, scrapbooks, gymnastics, cats, hot tea with lemon, the smell of bread baking, sewing, vanilla-scented candles, going to the movies, and ice cream.
Dislikes:
Mornings: Alessia is not a morning person by any stretch of the imagination. She is rather grumpy until she gets breakfast, and she wakes up very slowly. The only people who seem to be able to wake her nicely and not endure the usual whining and grumbling are Aunt Francesca and Maria Grazia. When Alessia is called out for a clinic emergency, she bounds out of bed wide-awake. It's the 'normal' mornings that give her trouble.
Being alone: Given her large and sometimes boisterous family, Alessia is used to having someone with her. She doesn't like to be alone for long periods of time, and would rather be in the same room with a person in complete silence than by herself with the radio on.
Bigotry and racism: Alessia has experienced her fair share of such things growing up, due to her appearance as well as her unique family situation. Met with such situations, Alessia lashes out, both verbally and physically. Such situations got her into fistfights at school; nowadays, she lets her temper flare at anyone who attacks her or her family.
Other dislikes include: housework, nosy neighbors, bananas, cold weather, spiders, people who don't like children, and fast food.
Fav. Food: caffe latte, mint chocolate chip ice cream, and her Aunt Lucia's cannoli.
Hated Food: eggplant
Fav. Subject: She enjoyed science classes and literature when in school. Now that Piera is tutoring her, she's found that she prefers biology to other kinds of science.
Hated Subject: Geometry... and she didn't exactly have a knack for languages, either.
Color: FFCC99, with FFFFCC as a secondary
Hobbies: Scrapbooking (her latest project is Antonio's first year) is one of her favorite pastimes. She sews when she gets the chance, but she prefers to spend her free time walking with Antonio or taking a nap. Her free time in the evenings might be spent watching the sunset, but she likes to take someone with her... usually one or both of her younger cousins.
Aspirations: Sadly, Alessia doesn't really think beyond the next few weeks or months. Every so often, she reminds herself that she wants to become a real nurse, but she only sees herself helping her aunt, taking care of her cousins, and watching out for her mother in case she gets sick again. If she didn't feel responsible for taking care of her mother and contributing to the family business, she'd want to go to nursing school... or at least work more with Aunt Francesca at the clinic.

History
Theresa Salvatici's whirlwind romance with a vacationing US Navy weapons officer resulted in the birth of a nine pound, three ounce baby girl. Lieutenant Eddie Pedreira had been ready to ask for a permanent reassignment to Rome as well as Theresa's hand in marriage days after the birth of Alessia. Unfortunately, an accident with an ammunition track cut the devoted man's life short, with Theresa informed via a telegraph from Eddie's commanding officer who sent the young mother Eddie's savings aboard the ship. Theresa set aside the money for Alessia when she grew older, lit a candle in the church for Eddie, and relied upon her sisters to help her raise her daughter. Her cancelled engagement to Cassiano Fabrizio gave their corner of Rome a bit of a scandal for a few years, but quieted to the occasional whispered comment when families met each other at church or passed in the street.
Alessia's heritage was questioned from the moment she was born. Her father hailed from the Bronx, the product of an African-American mother and a Puerto Rican father, and it was apparent in the child's coffee colored complexion and thick wavy dark hair. She endured rude questions from passersby as well as from her schoolmates when it came to her dark skin tone, often lashing out physically at those mean-spirited children who found it necessary to taunt her, day in and day out. Her mother and aunties loved her and accepted her. Slowly, a few of the children whose parents frequented the Salvatici bakery decided to open up to Alessia. Given time, the little girl found a handful of friends she kept near to her. With the birth of her cousin Maria Grazia, Alessia had something of a little sister and a constant admirer.
Alessia endured most of the usual trials and tribulations that any other little girl might encounter. A few cases of the flu, skinned knees and elbows, and a few burns from touching a too-hot tray of sweets when her aunties weren't looking... and like any other little girl, she survived. She loved helping her mother and aunties in the bakery, declaring herself the official taste-tester of Pan e Vida to anyone who came in to the shop. Her sock fetish started one Christmas when Aunt Francesca gave her a pair of knitted slipper-socks in bright green and pink. Throughout her primary school years, Alessia shuffled about the kitchen at the bakery in garish socks with her mouth full of sweets, taking time out to play with her baby cousin or read books aloud to the delight of her aunties.
At the age of thirteen, Alessia came home to a closed bakery and one of Aunt Francesca's convent sisters sitting on the step. Alessia clutched Maria Grazia's hand as Sister Giuliana carefully explained that they'd taken Theresa to the hospital after she fainted, and that she'd take them there to see them. Alessia refused to let go of her cousin's hand until the pair met with Aunt Francesca and Uncle Lazaro. Alessia relinquished her cousin to her parents, but the young teenager refused to leave her mother's side. Aunt Francesca's insistence that she go back to school was met with the serious and earnest claim that school wasn't as important as taking care of her mother, and that it was her job. Against her better judgment, Francesca withdrew her niece from school, knowing full well that Alessia wouldn't be able to concentrate on any kind of studies while her mother was in this state. Months passed, the diagnosis of cancer and rounds of medication and chemotherapy taking their toll on Theresa as her daughter watched, holding now-frail hands in her own and reading her the newspaper when she felt up to it.
Six months later, Theresa went home to the apartment above the bakery, where Alessia attended to her needs when the doctors couldn't come to the house or Francesca had to be at the convent or clinic. Despite Theresa's feeble insistence that Alessia return to school, her daughter remained at home, giving the excuse that someone had to take care of her. Francesca enlisted a few of the nuns at the clinic to help train Alessia to better take care of her mother. To their surprise, the teenager caught on quickly and begged to learn more. As Theresa's strength returned and she didn't require constant bedside attention, Alessia began to spend more time at the bakery, putting in her mother's share of the work. Her relatives didn't want her to worry about putting in time for her mother at the bakery, so Francesca offered to take Alessia to the clinic with her to help in the afternoons and evenings, when the bakery would be closed and Noemi would be free to sit with Theresa.
Alessia thrived at the clinic, her empathetic nature and her love of children making her an ideal pediatric assistant. Frazzled mothers could hand off screaming babies or sticky toddlers, and Alessia would think nothing of the mess as she cradled each charge and walked them around the tiny building. Unwed teenagers who used the midwifery services of the clinic often had Alessia sit with them during the delivery, providing a steady hand and a soothing voice throughout the ordeal. Her experience alongside her aunt and the other sisters at the clinic proved invaluable when Maria Grazia caught the flu, not to mention when Piera went into labor in the bakery kitchen one Sunday afternoon. She didn't have to deliver Antonio (Francesca did the honors), but she did get to give the little darling his first bath, and it was Alessia who danced him to sleep every afternoon so Piera could nap upstairs on the couch for the first month.
It was Francesca who approached her nephew and niece-in-law to ask about tutoring Alessia. If the teenager watched Antonio during the day, could Piera spend a few evenings a week helping Alessia prepare for the necessary exams to start on a nursing degree? More than happy to help, Piera agreed, taking time in the evening and on the weekends to sit with her cousin and tutor her so she could pass a basic secondary school proficiency exam.
These days, Alessia divides her time between her mother and the bakery, toting Antonio with her during the weekdays. Her tutoring sessions with Piera are some of the bright spots during her week. By her own admission, she leads a sheltered life... friends are difficult to maintain when you're immersed in your family and the only adult conversation you have is with customers or with strangers who fawn over your cousin and erroneously assume he's your son. Her morning walks with Antonio have led her to a few casual acquaintances, but nothing's happened to give her any friends her own age... yet. Her aunties keep hoping that she'll find someone her own age, break a few rules, and maybe do something teenager-like. Theresa fears that Alessia's missed out on her childhood, and blames herself for letting that happen.
Personality
Alessia is the Salvatici big sister, no question about it. Whether she is watching her cousins, looking after the family bakery (Pan e Vida), or out on an emergency call with Auntie Francesca, Alessia is supportive, caring, and always looking out for her immediate and extended family.
If one was to catch Alessia at the bakery, they'd encounter a typical bored teenager left to watch the counter while her aunts and mother sipped coffee and chattered outside on the patio. Polite but not overly friendly towards the tourists and sometimes-patrons, Alessia chooses to bestow charm and affection upon family and friends that stop in on a regular basis. She is the type to set aside orders for her favorite customers. Those familiar friends are kissed soundly, engaged in pleasant conversation, and always remembered.
In her role as Auntie Francesca's emergency nursing assistant, Alessia is the quintessential nurturer. Ever-ready to help and console, she is empathetic and perpetually sensitive to emotion. Alessia possesses the rare gift to allow her to pick up on patients' feelings and needs, able to anticipate many requests. She's hardly psychic; this ability has been honed through practice and experience alongside her aunt... as well as during the long nights looking after her mother.
Alessia is faithfully devoted to her family, especially her mother and aunts. Her cousins might as well be her brothers and sisters, and Alessia is incredibly close to them. She is protective and helpful, and she holds family traditions and 'family time' close to her heart. Despite the occasional grumpiness at being left to watch the shop or her seeming lack of patience with her aunties' early-morning cheerfulness, Alessia would do anything for her family when asked.
Friends are merely an extension of one's family, in Alessia's eyes. Those fortunate enough to be 'adopted' by her will never find themselves lacking for care or affection. She remembers birthdays, she sends cards, she smuggles goodies out of the bakery when meeting friends... Alessia looks after her extended family, once she's let down that guard, and is loyal to the end.
Growing up with just her mother and cousins has led Alessia to be very protective of her mother, ever more so after Theresa's bout with breast cancer. She takes her mother's advice to heart, and Aunt Francesca's advice comes a close second. Alessia is frugal, but manages to spend her pocket money on a few things (clothes or scrapbooking supplies) every so often. Very much the packrat, she refuses to throw anything away.
Alessia shares her deepest thoughts and dreams with a select few, being extremely choosy in those intimate relationships. She manages to be both tactful and honest with those close to her, presenting a charming if not slightly modest and unassuming personality. She does have a tendency towards mood swings, making her crabbiness known with a shrug or snippy comment. If threatened, Alessia withdraws into her shell, shutting out people until she feels comfortable again. It's not uncommon for her to go off and take a nap after fighting with someone. It's her... defense/retreat mechanism of sorts. Her attacks and retaliation tend towards the verbal rather than the physical as she's gotten older, and she can be rather scathing when provoked.
Overall, Alessia is a likeable, caring, and affectionate individual, once she warms up to you. She adores her family, genuinely enjoys helping people, and may smother her friends with affection... that is, if she gets some friends other than Maria Grazia and Antonio. Still, when something strikes a nerve, she lashes out before pulling back into her shell, wanting to be alone until things are calm again.
Appearance
Hair: Wavy and black, it hangs down her back in two thick braids that reach to her elbows. If her hair was any shorter, it would scrunch up on an ebony halo about her head, so she lets it grow... the weight manages the curl.
Face: Alessia's face is round, with apple-cheeks and a barely-pronounced chin. Her nose is snubbed at the end, testament to her father's heritage rather than the usual Salvatici graceful slope that gives her mother and uncle an almost-regal appearance. Lips are full and pouty, and are probably her best feature. She generally sports an expression of casual observance and serenity in the form of a gentle half smile, or may attempt indifference with a classic look of teenage boredom.
Eyes: Honey-brown, they reveal every emotion that Alessia experiences. Thick lashes frame them, and dark eyebrows add expression to frustration or delight.
Skin: Soft and dark, Alessia's complexion is the first thing that makes one question her Italian heritage. Her skin tone could be likened to a mocha latte, richer and creamer than that olive tones of her mother, aunts, and uncles. Such a difference makes Alessia a bit self conscious, and has led her to believe that she's not as pretty as she could be.
Build: One of the first things one notices about Alessia... she's tall. 5'11", with a B/C size chest, wide hips, and a round backside, Alessia could be described as statuesque. She's more pear-shaped than hourglass, with long graceful limbs. She doesn't think of herself as pretty, mostly because she doesn't look like her mother or Aunt Noemi when it comes to her figure.
Clothing: Very casual, Alessia wears clothes that she doesn't mind getting dirty. Jeans, t-shirts, light jackets, running shoes... those sorts of things. Her aunties have made her a few nice dresses to wear to church, but Alessia doesn't dress up much. If she did manage to get a social life that required 'going out' clothes, she'd stick to simple skirts and dresses, or nice slacks. She dresses in pale earthy tones coupled with denims, dressing for necessity rather than for style. When shopping, she tends to pick out new t-shirts or socks... she likes brightly colored socks.
Other distinguishing features: She sports a few burn marks along her arms due to some bakery mishaps, but that's about it. Nails are short out of necessity and her upper arms have some defined muscle from repeated baby-lifting.
Fuku
(to compensate, picture is
HERE)
Bodysuit: A cream-colored tank that flares out slightly, it ends halfway between her sternum and navel, and is matched by a pair of high-cut panties. The fabric is akin to microfiber... very soft, very light, and very silky to the skin. In the right light, it might be transparent. Much of her fuku is made of this fabric.
Top: An Egyptian-style collar that reaches to her shoulders, vertical stripes radiating from neck outwards in varying shades of cream, ruddy-gold, and red.
Choker: A ruddy-gold
menat
adorned with orange, red, and sand colored clay beads. This necklace has a four-inch long pendant comprised of a rectangle with an oval at the end, with a hole punched in each of the corners. A single beaded strand in shades of orange and red extends out for three inches on each side before splitting into twenty smaller beaded strands, the majority of them sand colored with orange and red beads at irregular intervals. This doubles as her transformation
item.
Gloves: Armguards of a sort, same pattern as a collar, they cover two-thirds of her forearm beginning at the wrist. Stripes go vertically outward beginning at the wrist, and are approximately a half inch wide.
Skirt: Long ankle-length skirt of same material as tank, it rests on her hips and clings to her figure. Slits on either side come half-way up her thighs, making walking only slightly less difficult. In the right light, one can see her panties through the skirt.
Shoes: Woven reed sandals, flat soles with open toes. There is a wide strap over the top of the foot and at the back to cushion her heel.
Tiara: A thick fabric headband, same colors and pattern as the collar and armguards. Stripes radiate back from her forehead, the same half inch width as the armguards.
Transformation
Hathor uses a menat to transform, slipping the necklace over her head and crossing her hands over the 'pendant' piece. She calls out "Hathor Ka Power, Make Up," a yellow-orange glow surfacing from her lower abdomen. This light spreads beneath her skin until she is literally translucent, sand appearing at her feet and slowly swirling upwards, hiding her from view. Light erupts from the top of the cyclone, the sand curtain falling away at her feet to reveal Hathor with her right hand holding the fabric of her skirt slightly outwards, right foot shifted forward. She smiles rather placidly with her left hand on her now ever-so-slightly rounded abdomen.
Personality (in Senshi form)
It is important to note that when Alessia is in her Senshi form as Hathor, she is more open and loving, possessing the closeness that Hathor has to the other Kemets without needing to go through Alessia's "trial period" usually required to get past her slightly aloof outer shell. She is the maternal figure, giving a voice of reason and rational to the group. She is a mediator and healer, unafraid to speak her mind when the situation gets vocally violent. Her 'momma bear instinct' also comes out, as anyone hurting other Kemets will probably find themselves attacked in retaliation after Hathor has tried to take care of her fallen comrade(s). Finally, Hathor is likely to be very affectionate towards the Kemet guardians... it's that mothering thing.
Powers
Mother Says No
Description: Hathor's eyes narrow and she begins with a slow "Nooooo," that starts in a low tone of warning. Hands on hips, Hathor leans forward slightly, her eyebrows furrowed in concentration as she yells at her target. "Mother... Says... NOO!" On 'No,' she shakes her head from left to right once, fixing her gaze on said target. The final 'No' echoes in a loud and commanding fashion.
Effect: This ability allows Hathor to halt anyone in their tracks for a maximum of five seconds. The affected person freezes and stares back at Hathor, experiencing a momentary surge of guilt. Those of a more sensitive nature might even burst into tears... it depends upon the person. Being able to call the Senshi's name (e.g. "Eos, Mother Says NO!") allows Hathor to freeze the person for up to ten seconds.
Power Usage and Restrictions: In order to use this ability, Hathor must have the target within a ten-meter radius, and the target must be able to hear her. That's right... if you can't hear her voice, you won't be affected. She cannot have more than one person frozen at any given time, and she is able to perform this attack as long as she is able to speak and see her target. This attack has a reset time of fifteen seconds. She may only perform this four times on one person in an eight hour period; if she attempts to use it more, then it's simply ineffective.
Labor Pains
Description: Hathor calls out, "By the womb that bore you, that labor be upon you," and presses her hand against the target's abdomen.
Effect: The target immediately experiences the equivalent of violent contractions for anywhere from thirty seconds to two minutes, depending upon Hathor's condition. These contractions swiftly tighten the muscles of the lower abdomen for fifteen seconds at a time while a similar dull yet expansive pain is experienced in the lower back on both sides of the spine. For female characters, this can be likened to the absolute worst case of menstrual cramps that one could ever imagine, for fifteen seconds at a time with five second intervals. Male characters might not know what in the world is going on... they might think it's horrible indigestion, or gas, or... something. In either case, the last 'set' of contractions is coupled with a cold sweat and nausea. Some might throw up, some might not... depends upon the pain threshold. To be completely medically accurate, this would be the beginning of the second stage of labor... no Braxton-Hicks contractions here.
Power Usage and Restrictions: Hathor must be in direct contact with the target to summon this attack. Without injury, this attack can last up to two minutes and she is recharged after a five minute interval, but the length of subsequent attacks decreases by five seconds. If Hathor is injured, the attack may only last thirty to ninety seconds. As a note, it is more severe on males (other muscles have to compensate for the contractions, obviously) than on females. Hathor may perform this attack five times in one hour, after which she must wait another two hours in order to perform a two minute attack.
Explanation
What is the myth behind your god/goddess/angel/etc.? Why did you pick it? Hathor was the goddess of joy, motherhood, and love. She was considered the protectress of pregnant women and a midwife. I picked her mostly because the motherhood powerbase was intriguing. Considering that I'm someone's mother and am still getting the hang of it, I thought that creating a "Sailor Mom" would be fun. Besides... the Kemets looked like a fun group, and I wanted the chance to be able to play with them... and I wanted to play with Ay and Adam. ^_^ Sorry... the inspiration doesn't go any deeper than that.
You may also wish to explain the relevance of your powers: The powers are actually rather funny, come to think of it. Thinking of motherhood at this stage made me think of two things... the actual process of birth and discipline. There are plenty of other fun mommy things, but I didn't think anyone would understand/appreciate such concepts like breastfeeding, late-night diaper changes, and the radar-like homing I've developed at three in the morning to locate a lost pacifier. "Mother Says No" is a spoof on the concept that really little kids generally freeze for a brief moment when you tell them no. It works... I can provide firsthand stories, usually involving my little cherub discovering the power button on either the server or the cable modem. "Labor Pains" was merely the thought that I'd love to see a male character experience contractions. Muahahahaha...
State what you know concerning your mineral/gemstone: Agate is the Arabic birthstone associated with June. In addition, carnelian agate is associated with intuitive talents, astral travel, sexual energy, and the prevention of miscarriage. Again, that mothering/midwifery thing.

"Look! 'Lessi, look!" Maria Grazia burst through the door to the back porch where Alessia and Antonio sat on a blanket, placidly reading a picture book about baby animals. Both of them looked up at their thirteen-year-old cousin who held up her apron where five mewing balls of fluff were huddled. "Zoe let me take her kittens out of the back closet!"
Alessia frowned ever so slightly, setting the book down. "Do you really think that's a good idea? Zoe might worry about them," she offered carefully. She set the baby on the blanket and stood up, towering over Maria Grazia. "How old are they now?"
"Five weeks, I think. Maybe four," she answered after a moment's consideration. Kneeling down carefully, she deposited the kittens about Antonio, who stared wide-eyed at the new 'toys.' "They're SO cute. We haven't kept any in a while. Do you think Mama would let us keep a few?"
"I don't know, it's not like-" Alessia stopped at the sound of a plaintative feline squeal coupled with the excited shriek of a baby. Swiftly, she separated a marmalade kitten from the enthusiastic yet none-to-gentle grasp of Antonio. "No," she admonished, giving him his stuffed animal instead. Poor ragged Rasso would be far better than a kitten when it came to playing. "You love on Rasso, okay? See? We love Rasso," she cooed, kissing the blue raccoon-badger toy before handing it to him. The baby squealed and babbled, clutching the toy to his chest while the marmalade kitten cried and shook in Alessia's arms. Gentle hands stroked the scared animal, and Alessia knelt down to gather the rest.
"But they should play outside," Maria Grazia protested. "Zoe let me take them..."
"Zoe's probably exhausted from feeding these little monsters," Alessia interrupted. "Take them back inside and let them play in the back, where they can see or smell their mother. Poor things are scared to death." She nuzzled the marmalade kitten once more, receiving a grateful purr before depositing him in the apron. "Give them a week or two... and not around him," Alessia added, pointing at the little boy who used Rasso's tail for teething. "He doesn't know any better."
The younger girl's face crumpled somewhat, tears ready to flow. "I didn't mean to make them scared," Maria Grazia offered, her lower lip quivering.
Alessia ruffled her cousin's hair gently. "I know you didn't. You just wanted to help them, that's all." She gave a reassuring smile and scooped Antonio up in her arms. "It's okay, really. Let's head inside."
